Lucien is a Tunisian restaurant in Paris 11th, at 40 rue des Boulets, near Nation (metro Rue des Boulets on line 9, or Nation on lines 1, 2, 6 and 9). We cook Tunisian family food, kosher under the supervision of the Beth Din of Paris, in the neighbourhood where my grandparents settled when they arrived from Tunis in 1967.
Couscous is our best-seller, with vegetables for the vegetarian version or as the couscous of the day, with fish depending on the catch or with meat, with or without a meatball. The semolina is worked by hand.
To start, there are crispy brik filled with egg, tuna and potato, shakshuka (ojja), slow-cooked tomatoes and peppers with a runny egg, and the slatas mechouia, houria or tounsia. On the grill, marinated parguit and the catch of the day.
Every week a timeless recipe comes back too, mloukhia, pkaila or kefteji depending on the season (ask what's simmering!). We are open Sunday to Thursday for lunch and dinner, and on Friday for lunch.
